The Office of the Tax Ombud (OTO) is proud to announce the launch of its annual awareness campaign, themed “Smart Taxpayers – Do the Right Thing”, coinciding with the start of the 2025 tax filing season. Following the success of last year’s campaign, “Be A Smart Taxpayer”, this year’s message marks a shift from raising awareness to encourage action. It urges taxpayers not only to stay informed but also to act responsibly, ethically, and proactively.
The 2025 campaign reinforces a shared commitment to improving tax compliance by promoting responsible tax behaviour and empowering taxpayers to understand and exercise their rights. It also raises awareness of the OTO as an independent and impartial platform for resolving taxpayer complaints against SARS.
As part of the campaign roll-out, a two-day activation will be held at the Menlyn Shopping Mall in Pretoria on Friday, 11 July 2025, and Saturday, 12 July 2025. During the activation, taxpayers will be able to:
- Lodge new complaints against SARS.
- Check the status of existing complaints.
- Speak with OTO representatives.
- Learn more about their rights and responsibilities.
This initiative aims to bring services closer to the public and promote the importance of tax justice in a more accessible and engaging manner.
The OTO encourages all taxpayers to engage with the campaign, take advantage of its free services and be proactive in ensuring tax compliance and fairness in the tax administration system.
