Sadtu wants Eastern Cape schools to shut down

An empty classroom is seen at the Ecole Nationale Republique du Chili as schools and businesses tentatively reopen their doors, in Port-au-Prince

The SA Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) in the Eastern Cape wants schools to shut down. The union is concerned about ablution facilities, shortage of personal protection equipment and water supply at schools.

It’s expected to meet with education on Tuesday to discuss its concerns. We have been receiving reports from schools of the PPE that did not reach the schools on time. The quality of those have been questionable. Even the issue of water that has been promised to be delivered, water tanks — they have not been delivered as promised,” said provincial secretary, Chris Mdingi.
